This is where the dragons went...

so here is the finished duvet cover with the sleeping dragon and the opening paragraph from Sir Terry Pratchett's Guards!Guards! 

A wonderful combination for me of my favorite subject, a dragon, my favorite piece of prose about dragons and the beginning of one of my favorite books by a favorite author.

So after all of those favorites, is this piece a favorite?

That would be a yes!

I have also confirmed the name of the original artist on who's work the image of the dragon was firmly based. Anne Yvonne Gilbert. Pleased to be able to credit her for the inspirational dragon images.

This is the original image that inspired the sleeping dragon, you may be able to see the just opened sleeping eye, daring a closer inspection.

You can also see that I have interpreted the colour of the scales ect to meet my personal preferences.


Now I am looking to see what else that I have in progress I could finish...however I am getting distracted with ohh look at that I had forgotten that bit of material I was going to..oh look at that I put that to one side to do....ohhhh.

Finishing something can lead to starting several other somethings, or as the poor centipede in the poem, sitting distracted in the ditch trying to figure out which leg comes after which.

All the quilting done (I did not go with the free motion quilting on the edge.  The hand quilting had turned out so nicely I did not want to take the chance of messing it up.

The binding was not quite as planed I had intended to do the fold, sew, fold over and and sew the folded edge on the back of the quilt.

That's what I did for the short edges. The long edges I had to do as a single piece of material with hems at front and back.  Both resulted in a thin binding which is all I wanted so to the good.

I did hand sew the binding in both versions on the back of the quilt.  I did a good chunk of that watching the 2016 final of Australian Masterchef. Yes it was a repeat and I had not watched any of the earlier rounds.  What a contrast to the format of the UK version! Anyway it was suitable company to the sewing without being distracting.

The weather has even cooperated going from the warmest April  day here in the UK on record back to the normal nip in the air Spring weather.  Much more suitable for quilt gifting.

Funny the way the light in the picture makes some of the blue triangles darker than others.  It is the same material for all the large blue triangles.

a couple of brown stitches to the neck, soles on the boots and then the delights of the backstitching to do.  Actually as the back stitching  is not bitty and into the middle of stitches (like the gardening mouse from the Easter blog hop) it should be  a pleasant finishing touch.

More Conference stitching

Well as listening to conference is such a good accompaniment to this particular wip I did it again today.

Love the option on the Mormon Channel to watch all of the conference sessions.

Mind I was not feeling in a confetti mood, nor an ecru, beige, cream , blending (tweeding mood) whatever mood.

So I treated myself to some colour  and some solid threads. It also has the benefit of being to see the work I did today with the help of the Saturday morning session.

Conference stitching

The magic of the internet enables me to watch conference from the comfort of my own home. Stitching whilst listening enhances the experience for me.

The stitching went a little past the session of conference and throughout the world report.  

My project of choice is not a quick stitch and although I spent quite a bit of time on it, stitching a shade of cream on cream it is difficult to see just what was done compared to the last update.  However, I know that there has been progress so I will be happy with that.

I do hope that it is not another six months and conference again before I pick this up..it might be but I can hope.

The reverse...

well backside just sounded wrong.

Finished the hand quilting part of my modified Roman Stripe quilt.

It is nice to get a picture with the quilting design showing.

That is not always easy to do.

I quite like how it has turned out thus far.

Especialy as I had not made up my mind how I was going to quilt it until after the sandwich was basted.

Marking on after basting can be a bit tricky.

Now I have folded it up and put it away whilst I get another project basted and decide how that one will be quilted.

And so I can decide if I an going to free motion quilt the edge or not.

At the moment I am more not than do, but that could be the desire to being closer to getting the binding on and being finished than a properly thought out design choice.

And if I do freemotion, do I try to echo the pattern or just go totally random...mind random can be tricky too.

Oh and here is a little reminder of the top, now with quilting added.

Easter Treasure Hunt Blog Hop 2018

Time for a bit of fun, hopping  around the participating blogs collecting the letters, figuring out the word or phrase to take back to the beginning, which is also the end and see if you can win the treasure at the centre of  Jo over at serendipitousstitching. s anual Easter Eggstravagansa

Given we are hopping I am going with a bunny again this year 

It is a cover kit from Crazy, the grass is in one strand the bunny and watering can in two. They were fine to do (well it did have in the middle of the stitches backstitching but it looks so caracterful that was forgiven), but the sky, half stitch in either two or one strand of the same shade of blue and my eyes just got totally and utterly lost on the colour pattern.  Half stitches require rewiring of my brain trying to work out were to go and how to get back so differently from the full cross stitch.  So I will tell you a secret...Shsss just between you and me.....

I said ah! fed up with this, gave up even trying to follow the pattern and just lobbed in random stitches till the space looked sort of filled.  I will probably get away with it as long as the designer (Margaret Sherry) is not participating, she would be sure to notice.

The frame is almost the letter you need but my wonderful (or not) camera skills have flattened it out a bit so I shall make it a bit smaller and clearer.

A little bit of grey

was completed this week. So the Pac Man mouth remains till I get back to doing tan.

in addition I have been working on my stitch for the Easter Blog hop this year.  However you will have to wait till Easter to see that.

Moving forward

with this little stitch, I was going to do the greys and white but for some reason that did not appeal to me today so started the brown.
